Meet Michael L. Parkinson

Michael Parkinson has been an attorney in private practice since 1994. He enjoys assisting individuals and families with basic legal needs such as wills, estate planning, business formation, contracts, civil litigation, and criminal defense. He also has extensive experience in defending the rights of individuals under the United States Constitution and federal civil rights statutes. He does not accept civil divorce cases.

He has an extensive academic background. He received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Purdue University in 1982, his Master of Arts in Modern European History with a concentration in Holocaust Studies from Purdue University in 1987, and his Juris Doctorate from Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in 1993. He also studied briefly at St. Meinrad College Seminary in St. Meinrad, Indiana, and at the Goethe Institute in Murnau, Germany. During his graduate program at Purdue, he was employed as a graduate assistant.

During his tenure at Regent University School of Law, he was employed as a graduate assistant to Professor Jeffrey Tuomala and was credited for his research contribution to Professor Tuomala’s law review article: Nuremberg and the Crime of Abortion, University of Toledo Law Review, 2011. He also received an American Jurisprudence Award for his academic achievements in the philosophy of law and did volunteer worked as an extern for American Center for Law and Justice, a public interest organization known for its defense of individual First Amendment rights.

Experience & Education

In 1994, Mr. Parkinson was admitted to the Bar of the State of Indiana, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. He was admitted to The United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in 2004 and to the United States Supreme Court in 2014. He was appointed to many cases in the areas of prisoner litigation, habeas corpus review, and police misconduct by the late Chief Judge Allen Sharp of the United States District Court of the Northern District of Indiana. He continues to accept cases in these areas on a limited basis.

His other professional work has included his assistance on the Canon Law Tribunal for the Catholic Diocese of Lafayette in Indiana and his employment as a faculty instructor of American History at Community College in Lafayette.

His volunteer work and associations have included being a member of the Republican National Lawyer’s Association, the American Catholic Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, and the Tippecanoe County Bar Association. He has served as a delegate to the Indiana Bar Association and has done volunteer work for Tippecanoe County Legal Aid Corporation defending parental rights cases. He has been a Vice President of Indiana Right to Life and a delegate to the National Right to Life Convention.

Mr. Parkinson takes new clients on a select basis. He does not charge for initial consultations.
